While a few of the clips in this video could be considered humorous, many of them are serious and could have even been fatal accidents. We encourage all of our users to take extreme caution while performing weight training exercises and always use proper techniques. Always follow the posted directions on workout machines and equipment, and always have a spotter when working with heavy weights.

Compilation of the Best Weight Lifting Accidents

Important Weight Lifting Techniques

1. First , always warm up before starting your workout. Try to do 5-10 minutes of cardio to get the blood flowing, and stretch all of your muscles, concentrating on those that will be incorporated in that day’s routine. For example, if you are doing chest, stretch your pectoral muscles, as well your back, shoulders, bis and tris. This is one of the most important weight lifting tips.

2. Always start off with a weight you can easily handle at least 10-12 repetitions with, at least for the very first set for a particular muscle. Get your body ready to do the exercise, before moving up to higher weights. Keep in mind that if you start off heavy, you can tear a muscle very easily.

3. Another important weight lifting technique is wearing gloves or using grips to make sure the weights are secure in your hands. Losing your grip can be dangerous, and weights are often slippery with oils from other people’s hands. Also, if you are going to lift heavy, wear a belt to avoid back injuries and hernias. They might not look too cool, but they do offer protection…and what’s more important. Also, if performing benchpress or other barbell exercises, always rest the bar in the palm of your hand and be sure to wrap your thumb around the bar to ensure a good grip and prevent the bar from slipping from your grasp.

4. One of the weight lifting tips we always offer to our visitors is to have a spotter with you, especially for heavy movements. The reason for this is two-fold. One, they can help you get that extra one or two reps that could make a significant difference in your results. Two, and perhaps more importantly, a spotter can help you put a weight back if you are unable to complete a rep…we’ve seen many showoffs stuck with a barbell on their chest, yelling out in desperation. Don’t be this person, get a spot!

5. Along the same lines, don’t lift more weight than you are capable of, especially if there is no spotter on hand. You can seriously injure yourself, and it could end your lifting career. Unless you are competing, try to stick with weights you can do at least 5-6 reps with without killing yourself. You’ll get the same results as you would have struggling to push out one rep.

Gym trainers everywhere have a run for their money with the new iPhone apps made available, such as SimGym, by Apple Seed Apps. A body building app for the novice or expert, this new app contains a unique feature that other personal training apps for iPhone and iPod Touch do not address – synchronization with a partner website at www.simgym.com. Not only does this unique gym training iPhone App marry the site, but workouts can be made from the site, and rumor is body builders and gym fans will be able to purchase workouts right from the website at affordable prices in the near future!

Personal training apps for iPhone are out there, but some are just missing the boat. SimGym, LLC., has found the missing element in regard to ease and effective logging, tracking and producing results while performing workouts in the gym, with a workout partner or without. There are also rumors of a SimGym Trainer iPhone App version, to be used by trainers in tracking client’s progress and effectively providing guidance. Plenty of new technology and workouts to be had in 2010, thanks to top apps like this one.

When looking at personal fitness, let’s consider a few things. Fitness Tracking, Time Management, Workout Routine Selection (to give your body the shock it needs) and a number to gauge and chart workout performance progress to name a few. All are very importants elements to gaining results, feeling fit and achieving the buffed look, if that is our goal. Many iPhone Fitness Applications are out there to assist us as a personal fitness trainer (right there in our pockets), however we don’t want to manage multiple accounts and learn multiple platforms.

When you look at the best apps, you’ll find that iFitness takes a fair stab at uncovering these results and fitness training tools, but in adding their extras they are missing some basics. A crucial calculation SimGym gives you site of with each workout is the percentage of 1 rep max, which many fitness applications do not provide. They also provide an outstanding service at www.simgym.com that no other app provides – syncronization with backed up data and management tools to prepare for your workout from the desktop so you can hit the ground running in the gym. iFitness provides what you need, but a little complex, whereas SimGym is a point and shoot app with some exclusive necessities. With so many workout apps to choose from, here is a good start!

“My friends over at SimGym.com have created an awesome application for the iphone / ipod touch that should be ready for our Marines and fitness enthusiasts in time for all of the 2010 New Years gym and weight loss resolutions. I would advise anyone who is serious about health and fitness to take a look at this mobile phone and iPod Touch application, the workouts available and www.simgym.com, the website that it integrates with. This will be a very sophisticated system that will look at your workout data and take the work out of calculating results and projecting gains for your next excercise routine. I have seen the details of this application and can guarantee this one will be on my ipod touch when it becomes available. I’ve already had the privileged of testing the initial versions. I’ll keep everyone posted as to when this application will be available in the iTunes store.” – Dan Collins, Founder of MarineCorpsFitness.com.

I know, when my wife, Nadia and I first started taking fitness and weight lifting seriously, even after 6 years in the United States Marine Corps, working on 3 mile runs, better PFT or “Physical Fitness Test” scores, training to improve those dead hang pull-ups and maintain those setups… I still had a lot to learn when it came to really training, especially without all the jarheads around. This is were we really all motivated each other, I never actually took ownership in any of our weight training programs. After years of lifting and exercising with them, I still had to relearn or get educated on muscle groups, workout options, and individual routines for the gym.

With free weights or with machines, I wanted to balance it out and not go too over board with either, but I some days I didn’t really know where to start, or what muscle groups to rotate or what dietary supplements to take or what creatine was and if it was even good for us.

This mindset told me something, if I’ve been around some of the biggest, stongest guys the military has to offer, and didn’t pick up on enough to feel comfortable in the gym, then there has to be more learn. More runners or cardio guys like me that didn’t always hit the weights strategically, but really want to learn more about their rep numbers, their form and technique and simply what to do on a continual basis to – train.

I wanted to know out of the gate what to do, without paying for a costly trainer, but by diving in by myself and start lifting weight, start doing the work, and although I have incredible discipline in the gym, it’s that kind that get things logged into a log book or complex app like istayfit and others out there.

The answers were clear and their yes response when we checked was a very uncomplicated SymGym Trainer App, also available to us in the form of SimGym.com – it just had to be created. Check it out and let’s see and hear about real results!

While you’re at it, learn a little more from a CNN worthy www.marinecorpsfitness.com, where are partner Dan Collins has done a superb job in motivating, training and answering questions for those wanting to live up to the best standards in their early ages in USMC, those who seek input for joining the Marine Corps, we can also talk about that! Semper Fi!

Okay, so it’s no secret now. Word is getting around that we’re about ready to launch SimGym v1.0 for iPhones and iPod Touch devices. We have submitted the product and are anxiously awaiting for the iTunes staff to get the product on the App Store. We’re hoping that it will be available by January 1st of 2010 so that all everyone with a new year’s resolution to become healthier can utilize it on their mobile device.

What you can expect:

1) Exceptional Value – Yes, we reallize that there are other apps available that are somewhat comparable to ours. We’ve used them all, and found that many of them were bloated applications that contain many features that the average user would not take the time and effort to learn and use. When building SimGym v1.0, we took them all into consideration and polled about 200 users of the other applications so that we could unclutter our application, provide easier navigation, and provide all of the features that people want.

2) Proven Workout Methodology – 1 Rep Max – The Simgym iphone application is the only application that applies the 1 RM (One Rep Max) Calculation while performing your workout in the gym. When creating your workout, the user will easily be able to access their 1RM for each exercise, and understand the recommended number of reps for each set based on the % of 1RM calculation. No Other Application Offers This 1 RM feature! Granted, in order to increase your 1RM, you need to perform each set to failure every time. Also, since we are human, and will fatigue after each set, the 1RM is only valid on the first set of an exercise, which is how we calculate it. No more referencing hard to understand 1RM charts posted on the gym wall!

3) Workout Data Backup – Once again, we will be the only application that will automatically backup all of your workout and exercise data with our encrypted website so that you can perform further analysis of your work, monitor results, and download tailored workout programs to fit your specific needs. No need to hire an expensive trainer who will force a one size fits all workout program on you.

4) Perform Your Workout With a Partner – If you have a buddy that will be joining you in the gym, and you are at different levels in your workouts…no problem. You can easily toggle between users in real time while performing the same workout and log your exercise values for both users! Yes, we know, sure would be nice if the other health and fitness apps would do this! We’ll even syncronize your partners’ workout data with our website so that they can log on and monitor their own performance. Don’t worry, after they see how this application works, and how easy it is to use, they’ll purchase this application for themselves.
